Prof Satheesh Krishnamurthy, FRSC, FIMMM

Professor Satheesh earned his BSc and MSc Physics from University of Madras in 1997 and 1999. After his post graduation (1999-2001) he worked as a research engineer at Southern Petrochemical Industrial Cooperation. He was involved in preparation of membrane electrode assembly for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, fuel cell stack test for the integration in to hybrid electric vehicle. He did his Ph.D. in Nanomaterials at school of chemical and advanced materials from Newcastle University in 2004. After three years of post-doctoral experience at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, he spent three years as a senior research fellow ad Dublin City University, Ireland. In 2012, he joined the school of engineering and innovation, STEM faculty at The Open University, UK as a Lecturer in Energy. In 2014 he became senior lecturer in energy. From 2017, he became Chair of Energy Technology.

Professor Satheesh's research interests include synthesis and structure-property relations of nanostructures and nanocomposites, materials science and applications of nanomaterials, energy storage, and photocatalysis, surface engineering of nanoscale systems through atmospheric pressure plasma systems. His PhD work came in BBC as he was involved in discovering new material called gold nitride. He is one of the pioneers in the field of surface engineering of 2D materials through plasma for waste water treatment, additive manufacturing and energy from waste. He was involved in the early work on the topic along with the Prof Braithwaite's group. He has published one book and over 80 journal papers with nearly 8000 citations. He has given more than 75 invited talks including several named lectures, keynote and plenary lectures in several countries and at several international conferences.

Satheesh has received several awards including the UK India research excellence award, by the British Council and Confederation of Indian Industry was given by UK prime minister delegation to India. British Asian Scientist of the year award. He has been elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Fellow of Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining. He was one of the top 40 engineers selected for EU US frontiers in Engineering program. He was invited by late former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam to discuss nanotechnology initiatives in India and creation of various entrepreneurial activities. In 2020 he was invited by prime minister of India office for Global summit for overseas and resident Indian scientist and academics conceptualisation team (VAIBHAV), he was the only participant from UK to be invited for the team. He is also the recipient of Global Initiative for Academic Networks funded by Ministry of Education India. He was also the invited member of EU India delegation to India in 2012. He is also an adjunct professor at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, visiting scientist at NASA AMES Lab. He is also vice president of Indian Chamber of Youth Entrepreneurs, UK. He is also a panel member for UNESCO, Royal Academy of Engineering and many other research councils.
